Our ClubLicensed in September 2007, WØVFW was and continues to be the only VFW Post sponsored amateur radio club. Originating from 4801 West Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS, WØVFW provides opportunities to operate on VHF, UHF, and HF frequencies.
WØVFW has provided classes for Veterans and members of the Community leading to an increase in the number of licensed Amateur Radio Operators. HF operations are used to honor Veterans around the country by participating in Special Events such as Pearl Harbor Day and Veterans Day.
WØVFW also supports the tornado spotting groups by allowing the National Weather Service to use it's repeaters and Echolink to report tornados. WØVFW operates open repeaters on 145.270MHz and 443.325MHz. The 145.270MHz repeater can also be accessed via Echolink. WØVFW supports its parent post in any way that furthers its mission of service. Membership Information
Members meet at our post at 19:00 hours on the LAST Monday of every month. Membership costs $20.00 per year (prorated quarterly and renewable on June 1 of each year). Members are not required to be a member of the VFW post or it's auxiliaries but it is strongly encouraged if you qualify.
Equipment
W0VFW members enjoy access to our radio room and equipment during VFW hours of operation. The radio room contains a Yaesu-1802 ( 2 meter radio). For HF Phone (SSB, AM, FM) we have a Kenwood TS-570S with a built in antenna tuner. For Digital use we are using a Icom-718 with a computer with "Ham Radio Deluxe" software. The antennas for the radios are, J-Pole for 2 meters, 180 meter Dipole wire antenna and a 5 band trapped vertical for HF operation. We are in the process of putting up a 40' aluminum tilt over tower with a 7-element tri-band Yagi beam. On the tower we will also install a 12 element 2meter beam that we can switch from vertical to horizontal polarization. On top of the mast holding the beam antennas will be a Comet GP-9 2meter/440mhz vertical that will be for use on the 440mhz repeater.
