About Us

The Wichita Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars, (VFW), Post 3115
was officially chartered by the VFW headquarters in Kansas City on November 26, 1974. At that time; Our Department Commander, Robert (Bob) Howell, was a member of the Derby VFW Post. During the late sixties, after his return from Phan Rang Air Force Base, Vietnam, Bob had retired as a Major from active service from the United States Air Force. Following Bob's retirement, he was employed as a Personnel Specialist (Trainee) for the Civilian Personnel Office at McConnell AFB, Kansas. During the next few years he was working his way up through the numerous VFW positions until he became the Kansas Department Commander in 1974. His long time dream of forming a new VFW Post - primarily to recruit Vietnam Veterans - was slowly becoming a reality. The new Post was finally dedicated in late 1974 and was housed in a building at West Street and Douglas Street. A couple of years later the Post was moved to the 500 block of North Anna Street. From there the Post moved to its' current location at 4801 West Douglas Ave

Our Mission Statement.
To preserve and strengthen camaraderie among VFW members; to perpetuate the honor, memory, and history of our dead, and to assist their widows, widowers and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the government of the United States of America and fidelity to its Constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom; and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomever and wherever they may be. Our mission is simple: support programs to increase awareness of the sacrifices of America's veterans; promote citizenship education, volunteerism and positive youth programs; and facilitate medical, rehabilitative, educational and employment services and needs for veterans and their families.
